This year is going so fast, people. I mean almost one month ago today, I was at the La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla shooting the next three decades for their Hot Pink Celebration countdown [70s-60s-50s] and although I am loving every minute of this once-in-a-lifetime experience, I cannot believe we are already to the month of the 80s?! For those of you who might be feeling a little lost at the moment, this year I was hired to be both the stylist and the model for the La Valencia Hotel’s Hot Pink 90th Celebration – a historical 9-month fashionable countdown from present day to the year 1926 when “The Pink Lady” first opened its doors 🙂 and if you don’t know who “The Pink Lady” is, well, that’s the hotel’s nickname and thus the title of the person filling the roll for the campaign. Okay, now onto the 80s . . .

I was born in 1984, so I got to witness some of these ridiculous fashion trends firsthand from my mother and aunt [can someone say shoulder pads?] but I also did my fair share of research for styling this project, because, well, I wanted the “80s” Pink Lady to be just right. Thus, I binge watched some “Designing Women.” I mean twist my arm, right?! I adore me some “Designing Women.”

Yep, Julia Sugarbaker and all the other fabulous gals of “Designing Women” were my sole inspiration for my 80s-tastic getup = bold yet feminine makedup, gawdy earrings, a blousey dress with shoulder pads [of course] pearls, black panty hose, and a pair of pumps with a slight open toe.

Now, I realize that none of these ladies really crimped their hair in the show but what would an 80s ensemble really be without some crimped glory 😉 so I went BIG instead of going home! Even did the hair myself??? Which was a little nerve racking but I’m happy without it came out.

So hit me with your best shot 😉 what do you think of the 80s Pink Lady? Love it? Hate it? Either way, I am still thoroughly enjoying this entire Hot Pink process and am ever so looking forward to the giant “Roaring 20s” birthday party happening for the La Valencia Hotel this December!
