I absolutely love the lyrics to Bing Crosby’s song about the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club:
Where the turf meets the surf
Down at old Del Mar
Take a plane
Take a train
Take a car.
There is a smile on every face
And a winner in each race
Where the turf meets the surf
At Del Mar.
An old classic . . . and almost every line of the tune is true [ALMOST!].
Now, don’t get me wrong. Overall, we had a wonderful time [like usual] with our dear friends, Matt and Leslie, but for the first [oh] one – two hours of the whole “Opening Day” festivities, it was a doozy. Yep, no smiles were on our faces. I honestly try very, very, VERY hard to look on the positive side of life, but all four of us were truly tested by this customer service nightmare. Seriously, but I really don’t want to get into it.
Okay, NEVERMIND. I will!
Here’s the short version of the adventures we faced just in reaching our seats:
– Almost no one could successfully tell us where our seats were located.
– The ATM in our section was broken.
– There was only one bartender for our entire level.
– Concessions had already run out of important food items.
– Most of the employees were unfriendly.
With D working in Operations and Leslie being a wedding coordinator, I SOOO thought they were going to lose their minds. I don’t blame them, though. I’ve dabbled in event planning myself and I think I could even have come up with some better execution of the entire shindig than what was presented to us. I’m sorry, DMTC, but this wasn’t your first rodeo, correct?!
Anyway, once we had food in our stomachs, drinks in our hands, and bets placed, it turned out to be a pretty fantastic day!
[Maybe that’s the DMTC’s plan???]
Oh, and just a few more pictures to commemorate the day. Checkout our handsome gents! Leslie and I are two very lucky ladies – don’t you agree?
I’m always amazed what a little soap and water can do 😉 we all cleaned up nicely.
Me and D feel so incredible lucky to have these two in our lives. When we’re together, we always have a blast. Leslie is the kindest person and best story teller I have ever met and Matt . . . well, Matt is . . . umm . . . [just kidding, Matt!] Matt is one of the funniest people we have ever met. So random. So hilarious. So Seinfeld. Oh, and before I forget, look at Leslie’s eyes! I am so insanely jealous how blue they are. So gorgeous. They are both so beautiful inside and out.
“A friend is someone who gives you total freedom to be yourself.“ – Jim Morrison
I really do hope everyone will be up for it again next year [I know – I’m crazy!] I guess we’ll wait and see!
