Man, talk about a jammed packed schedule I’ve had lately = a “Royals” vacation with the husband a few weeks ago [that I still need to post pictures from btw] Create + Cultivate last weekend in Los Angeles, Beyoncé concert last night, I have the Fashion Week San Diego’s Spring Showcase at Harrah’s Resort Southern California tomorrow night, and then Monday, we are shooting the next set of decades for the La Valencia Hotel’s Hot Pink 90th Celebration, but honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way! I mean would you?! 😉 And since I just mentioned the La Valencia Hotel, why don’t we continue our discussion here on LLM regarding “The Pink Lady” project that I’m currently apart of?

As you know, this year I was hired to be both the stylist and the model for La Valencia Hotel’s Hot Pink 90th Celebration, which pretty much is a historical 9-month countdown from present day all the way to 1926 – the year when “The Pink Lady” first opened its doors. I’m covering the fashion portion of the festivities and the decade for May is the 90s 😉 a decade of fashion [in my opinion] we could have definitely lived without [LOL] with it’s plaid prints, oversized denim, and all that grunge. But when I am given a challenge, I welcome it with open hangers 😉

For the 90s, I decided to go down the route of the movie, She’s All That, and then added a touch of the T.V. show, Friends, with “The Rachel” haircut. I mean the hair didn’t come out exactly perfect but it does embody a “Monica” if not a “Rachel” . . . anyway, for me, that iconic scene from She’s All That when Laney comes down the stairs in her new makeover was EVERYTHING to me in that decade. Not to mention, when she’s biffs it on the stairs right after her BIG reveal is such a “Jenna” move if I ever saw one. HAHA! And I of course wanted The Pink Lady to stay classy and not grungy, so I used She’s All That as the inspiration to dress The Pink Lady as if she’s was going to a 90s dance or even a prom.

And I know I got the look right because both the photographer and I kept singing “Funk Soul Brother” from that other iconic scene from She’s All That when we were shooting the 90s photos, so there’s that too 🙂 and speaking of music, have you yet had the chance to listen to the live music at the La Valencia Hotel? Well, if you haven’t, you should be experiencing large amounts of FOMO, because you ARE missing out! They have fine live music every Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and every Wednesday through Saturday evenings from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. and the caliber of talent is second to none. You can checkout the rundown of their artists here.

So what do you think of the 90s Pink Lady? I honestly think that both the 2000s and it were good, but they are definitely not the most fun nor the best of the nine decades I am styling/modeling for this unusual project. Thus, let the REAL fun begin! YAY! Next month, I will reveal to you the 80s Pink Lady, but until then, wish me luck with the 70s, 60s, and 50s. We shoot those this Monday at the La Valencia Hotel. Have a great weekend, y’all! And don’t forget to stop by and say hi if you’re out and about at the Fashion Week San Diego’s Spring Showcase at Harrah’s Resort Southern California tomorrow. It’s one of my favorite events of the year! MUAH!
