Recently on the blog, I shared with you my first-ever time-lapse video of a typical “Teardown Tuesday” in the Homebird Upholstery studio. You can see such video by clicking here. In it, I am tearing this mid-century modern couch that looks like it’s straight out of Don Draper‘s office in Mad Men [scotch stains and cigarette burns included] well today, it’s time to share the upholstery before and after of said couch.
This is another classic case of taking an old piece of furniture from drab to fab 😉 the client is a fashion stylist friend of mine in L.A. and she just loved the idea of taking a modern tweed fabric for the body and mixing it with leather accents for the welting . . . and if I’m going to be honest here = it turned out even better than what was in my mind’s eye, which would make any artist under the sun extremely happy!
“Oh, I just want what we all want: a comfortable couch, a nice beverage, a weekend of no distractions and a book that will stop time, lift me out of my quotidian existence and alter my thinking forever.” — Elizabeth Gilbert
What are your thoughts on this upholstery transformation? Yay? Nay? Maybe you aren’t WILD about the upgrade of the fabric? Maybe you’re a mid-century modern purest and would have left the couch “as is” OR maybe [just maybe] you would have preferred to recover it but in the exact same color? Please leave your feedback in the comments section below! I’d love to read it! Just remember to always be kind 😉
